Your Tax Preparer and You!

Now…you’re looking for someone who understands your case, is a competent professional and who is generally pleasant.  Many people don’t understand what goes on behind the scenes….the snobbery…..the self-aggrandizement….the self-promotion…..

But you know what else goes on?  INCOMPETENCE. Well…OK….you know it goes on.  You’ve heard the various horror stories.

My latest experience has been unravelling a case….an understandably confusing and difficult situation, however I never thought I’d encounter someone who is seemingly “moralizing” about a client and trying to apply tax law to it.  When we analyze a situation we take it apart and give it lots and lots of thought and do the research.  If another tax “pro” in this industry is going to argue against my analysis, s(he) could at least quote the Internal Revenue Code or an appropriate publication.  Frightening to think that somebody might be unjustly taxed because the preparer has some sort of moral imperative or should I say “desperation”…or perhaps it was just plain old-fashioned jealousy.

The tax code wasn’t written for special people.  It was written for everyone.  It has only become so convoluted and ponderous (a generous word for it) because everyone in this country (and outside of it) wants to be a “special interest”.

The IRS can make all the rules it wants about us.  But it can’t control the nitwits.

If you have a problem with whatever is on your return, make sure your taxpro points to an appropriate authority for their reasoning before authorizing the filing of your return.
